NLB Book Bugs Programme 2026 – The Secret of the Shards

The National Library Board's Book Bugs is back for 2026 with a new edition, 'The Secret of the Shards' — running 1 August to 30 November 2026 at all public libraries island-wide. It is free, aimed at children aged 4 to 12, and built around a simple idea: borrow and read library books, earn points, and redeem collectible Book Bugs trading cards. How to play 1. Borrow physical books with your child's own myLibrary account (sign up free at any library or on the NLB Mobile app). 2. Borrowing earns Book Bugs points, and completing the accompanying quizzes earns more. 3. Redeem points in the NLB Mobile app: choose the number of card packs, receive a QR code and 8-digit PIN, then collect the cards from a Book Bugs dispenser at selected libraries. The card list The Secret of the Shards edition features a new series of collectible character cards — the full card checklist and dispenser locations are published on NLB's official Book Bugs page (nlb.gov.sg, under Discovereads), so you can track which cards your child is still missing. Tips for parents Each child needs their own library card — points accrue per account, so siblings should borrow on their own cards. Card stocks at popular dispensers run out; redeem early in the season rather than saving points for the final weeks. The programme is a genuinely effective reading motivator — pair library trips with a card redemption to keep the habit going all season.
